What I’m reading

It just occurred to me that I rarely talk about my reading in here. Given that I read nearly every day and get through a tremendous number of titles, if I tried to list everything, I’d soon be overwhelmed. Instead, I’ll just hit the highlights.

The first two are for a challenge I joined to read some non-fiction, which I don’t do enough.

The Power of Ritual by Casper ter Kuile

I listened to it in audio and very much enjoyed it! Read by the author, it’s about ritualizing habits we already have to imbue more meaning into our everyday lives. If you’ve heard of “habit stacking,” this is a similar idea. There were a few elements that were a bit overly “woo” for me, but overall, a good book.

I also listened to The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer as part of my non-fiction challenge.

This one was definitely “woo,” but still enjoyable. The author is Native American and the topic intertwines beautifully with her spiritual path.

After those two, I wanted something comforting, so I decided to re-listen to Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs, which I’ve enjoyed reading and rereading for years. I listened to the audiobook for the first time a couple of years ago and found it equally enthralling. It’s a novella that starts the Alpha and Omega series, which is a spin-off of Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series.

Since Alpha and Omega is a short read, I immediately began Cry Wolf, the first full-length novel in the series.

I’ve always loved urban fantasy with a slow burn paranormal romance and this series doesn’t disappoint in any way.

On my Kindle, I’m doing more re-reads, starting with Grace Draven’s lush fantasy romance novella, In the Darkest Midnight. I’ve always loved how she takes her time with a story, but the pacing never drags.

Next up is another paranormal romance, but faster paced, quick and clever. The Chosen by Thea Harrison. I’m looking forward to it!
